2013 Zulu Trip
Assembly Presentation about the Tshakaland Experience.
Whilst at Shakaland we had a chance to attend Zulu lessons at a school called Ncemaneni. We actively participated in group discussions. Simphiweyinkosi Moyo and Tanaka Taruvinga pleasantly surprised us by giving answers with utmost confidence.
From Shakaland we went to Durban. Accommodation was superb. We visited the following areas:
KwaZulu Natal Sharks Board - where we were briefed on sharks and how we can best protect ourselves from these dangerous species. We also witnessed a shark dissection. There were schools from as far as Swaziland and certain areas in South Africa to witness this activity.
UShaka Marine World - where we saw a variety of fish in a huge aquarium, watched a live dolphin display and then had a fun filled afternoon on the water slides.
IDlinza Forest - where we took a walk on a platform which is surrounded by tall trees. It is peaceful and ideal for meditation. On the same evening we went to a Games Arcade for bowling and we played a number of games. This was quite a relaxing activity for the girls.
We went on a boat cruise on the Indian Ocean. We saw ships of all sizes, including a huge one which houses up to 5000 cars.
All these visits were conducted in isiZulu and so the girls continued to relish the accent. We hope to compile comprehension passages based
on all these places that we visited and share our experiences with the rest of the girls that were unable to go.
Thank you so much to Mrs Mathe, Sr Rudo, the French Department, the secretaries and the bursar for all the support. This was an invaluable experience for both the teachers and the students.
