1st Term 2014 Newsletter (End of Term)

As we move towards the end of the term, I would like to sincerely thank you for your cooperation which has made the transition smooth. As holidays start, we think of getting ready for second term.

School fees

As agreed at the AGM and communicated to you in the Mid-term newsletter, next term there will be no school fees installments. School fees must be paid in full a week before schools open. The school has made an arrangement with NMB to offer school fees loans to parents. Forms are available at NMB. Below is the school fees structure for different forms:

FORM

DUE DATE

Please note that the above figures do not include special levies such as that for ICDL and past exam paper booklets. This will be stated on the invoice. Please check your invoice and pay accordingly.  A copy of the bank receipt should be submitted to the Bursar’s office from which you will receive a clearance voucher. Please remember to give your daughter the clearance voucher to bring to school on the first day of the term.

Bank  details are still the same:

ACCOUNT NAME:      Dominican Convent High School (N.M.B)

BRANCH CODE:          11311

SWIFT CODE:  LZWHX (For deposits made from outside the country)

School Gates Project

Work on the gates has commenced and the project should be completed by the time we open for second term. We hope to start the second term with a new school face. We pray for safety and protection from harm throughout this project. Please drive very carefully into the school while construction is in progress.

Emails and Technology

Thank you for submitting your email addresses through your daughters. It is high time we go green and stop printing newsletters for you. Next term we will not send out hard copies of letters and newsletters from the school. If you have not submitted your email address to the school please do so before the opening date.

I would also like to encourage you to purchase laptops or desktops with access to internet to allow your daughters to do research at home.

ICDL

This term we were not able to carry out ICDL assessments because the software for the new syllabus was not yet available from the Computer Society. We have now received the new software and will therefore start assessments next term.

Sponsored Walk, SDC Braai and Raffle Draw

Our Lenten Sacrifice Campaign Sponsored Walk was a huge success with the High School raising $2000 while the Primary School raised over $4000. Last year’s raffle was drawn after the Sponsored Walk. The first Price went to a parent who had bought raffle tickets worth $120. The family atmosphere at the braai was amazing.  Thank you to all parents who supported and took part.  We hope next year more parents from the High School will participate.

School rules and grooming

We have spotted several blazers and blouses without one or two buttons. A few girls do not wear their blazers to assembly. We expect our girls to wear the Convent uniform with pride. Please help us to groom them into young ladies. Blazers should be taken for dry cleaning during the weekend to avoid unnecessary excuses for not wearing a complete uniform.

A few girls have been suspended for loitering and talking to boys in town in school uniform. We are grateful to those parents who help us to raise the Convent flag high by spotting these girls and phoning the school or taking pictures and sending them to School.

Please do not invite girls to your offices. There are too many so-called parents’ offices in town and we have 500 girls to look after. Girls are supposed to be dropped off at school and picked up from school. If they use public transport, they are expected to come straight to school and go straight home after school.

Winter is soon approaching. Please re-visit the school rules to remind yourself about uniform items which are permissible during winter.

Open Day -Wednesday 26 March 2014

Our Open Day for grade 6 and 7 girls and their parents was a great success. Our visitors who spoke at the end of the programme voiced their satisfaction which resulted from Convent’s holistic approach to education as well as our state of the art technology which they had not seen in any of the schools they had previously visited.

Trips

Divinity girls travelled to Rome on a combined Divinity trip with Harare Convent School. Dominican Youth Movement (DYM) will travel to Chinhoyi for their first National Assembly together with the Torch Bearers from the Primary School. This year the African Assembly for DYM will be held in Nigeria towards the end of July.

Please note that there will be no French and Zulu trips this year. These are scheduled for next year.

Africa Day

The school will celebrate Africa Day on the second Friday of the term (23/04/14). As is our tradition, we ask parents for donations of African food stuffs which will be put on display and shared among the girls. On this day, girls will dress in African attire. We take this opportunity to remind our African girls of who they are and where they came from.

Holiday office hours

Our offices will be open as follows:

Secretaries:

8:30am- 12:00 noon from 14 to 17 April 2014

Office closes from 18 to 21 April 2014

As Easter draws near, I pray that you experience some resurrection in your personal and family lives.

Blessings,

SR RUDO MATSIKA OP
